Citizens of Kunming, China, cannot agree on just what it was they saw and photographed in the sky near the city airport at 07:40hrs, on the morning of January 13.

Speculation runs from a meteor trail, a comet, an aircraft and even a bomb; the latter comprising 5cm diameter spherical shells used regularly to scare away birds from airport runways.

One resident who filmed the anomaly reported its trail as bright as the morning sun. It remained in the air for at least five minutes before disappearing.
