Beginning June 10, a series of gigantic crop circles began appearing mysteriously in Italian grain fields. They soon provoked a great deal of curiosity and theorising, especially among that country's press.
The first circle showed up on land near the border between the province of Macerata and Ascoli Piceno, near Montegranaro, where the local mayor. an acknowledged fan, has taken a keen interest.
Later, at Saint Biagio di Osimo (Ancona), an enormous pictogram was created overnight comprising a circle 48 meters in diameter and accompanied by five satellites, each 11 meters in diameter. So great was interest in the event that local police were called upon to control crowds anxious to see and photograph the anomaly.
While some people regard these circles as hoaxes and farmers are unhappy at losing their crop, so far no-one has reporting hearing any strange noises nor reported any inexplicable movement in the fields.
Although a flourescent ball of light was reported to have been seen by one man near Port Picena Power, while one 'expert' claims to have photographed a bright sphere in the sky of Montegranaro, describing it as "a phenomenon of energetic nature but intelligent".
