The incident I am about to relate was experienced by myself approximately 22 years ago and has served to leave me puzzled ever since. I have no explanation for the strange set of events which unfolded that remarkable evening, and the occurrence will remain fresh in my memory for the rest of my life.

It was a cool and foggy late November evening when I returned to my flat at about 11pm. I lived alone then in a large Victorian house located in Bristol, which had previously suffered an unsympathetic conversion into various bedsits and flats. Much of the ornate plastering remained untouched, however, including ceiling moulding and a decorative picture rail.

After settling with a welcome cup of coffee and a book, I became aware of what I can only describe as a "presence" in the room. I quickly ignored such feelings and resolved to continue with my reading. Suddenly I realised that the mantle clock was silent -- something that was unheard of, for it kept excellent time and had never failed me before.

Just at that moment a small blue glow appeared high up in a corner of my room. It quickly grew from a tiny spot of maybe one or two inches, until it had formed itself into a globe of light about five inches in diameter. I remember thinking my heart had stopped as well, for I was faced with something totally beyond my understanding.

I watched in disbelief, for perhaps 15 seconds or more, as the ball just hung there and then it moved slowly and deliberately down the wall until coming to rest again near the picture rail. All this while I must have held my breath. I know I was transfixed by what was taking place and remember thinking that perhaps I had fallen asleep and was dreaming. But this certainly was no dream that night.

The light then very slowly and deliberately followed the course of the rail around my room. All the while my attention was focused upon it I became aware of a great feeling of peace and relaxation as the events gradually unfolded. When it had completed its circuit of my room, the light travelled at the same measured pace to the exact point of its original appearance, and seemed as if at rest a few minutes more.

Its departure was swift and sudden. I found myself gazing at the spot still, after it had vanished noiselessly a few seconds earlier. The ticking of my mantle clock was the only sound I could hear. Later I was to check its time with that of my watch, and found to my amazement that both registered exactly the same.

I have no answers for what transpired that night, but I do know that other people too have experienced similar happenings. I just wish I knew why and for what purpose. I believe that blue glowing globe was either intelligent or intelligently controlled.
