Nigerian Prophet Filmed Reviving Dead Man
[Original headline: Prophet revives dead man]
Nigerian prophet T B Joshua laid his body partially over that of a man who had been declared clinically dead more than half-an-hour before and ordered: "In the name of Jesus, arise."
A few minutes later the man, Moses Marole (76), opened his eyes.
That is the testimony of a group of South Africans who went to visit the Nigerian prophet last month.
The "miracle" was recorded on videotape, "so the world can see God is alive".
Marole just shakes his head after arising like Lazarus from the dead.
"I know nothing. I only know what people have told me," he says.
Tour leader Santa du Plessis says shortly after their arrival Marole collapsed in the dining room of a probable heart attack.
"I was very worried and didn't know how we'd get him back to South Africa, and how we'd inform his family of the tragic news."
Dr Johan Wilkenson, a neurosurgeon from Bloemfontein, found no heartbeat. Wilkenson and two others treated Marole for about ten minutes with artificial respiration, but to no avail. He then declared Marole dead.
Danie Terblanche, a private pilot, says he closed Marole's eyes.
"I could feel his icy-cold face. He was definitely dead."
Junior prophets from the church prayed for Marole. They then asked Wilkenson and Christo Myburgh, a defence force officer, to continue the emergency treatment.
"After a while we could feel a faint pulse," says Wilkenson.
Joshua asked that Marole be brought to him.
The video shows how Joshua orders Marole to rise.
He then takes Marole's hand and it looks as if he blows into his face.
Marole says it felt as if he woke up into a strange world. Only later did he hear what had happened.
"People at home think I'm talking nonsense, but it was a miracle," he says.
Wilkenson says he works with many ill people and has no doubt he witnessed a miracle.
"Even if we had the best medical equipment, it would not have been possible to bring him back to life."
Marole suffers from diabetes and has not been cured.
Joshua gave him money so he can return to Nigeria where he (Joshua) would pray for him to be cured of the disease.
"I am a new person. The Lord has freed me," Marole said.
