Psychic Research Notes Sharp Increase
In Premonitions Since Sept 11
[Original headline: Dreaming of the future]
Ever woke up in a cold sweat with the weirdest dream still fresh in the memory?
Ever seen something on the TV that you feel you have seen before in a dream?
If the answer is yes, then the chances are you are psychic. But then, of course, you probably knew that already.
Now it seems the number of people claiming they have special ‘powers’ is on the increase, sparked by the terror attacks on September 11.
And the West is at the forefront of this premonitions boom – it tops the psychic league table with one-in-three people claiming special powers.
According to a new survey, women are more psychic than men, with more than half of the West women questioned recalling at least one premonition that came true.
Now researchers are appealing for people who claimed to have premonitions, particularly of the attacks, to get in touch. They especially want to hear from people who told friends, relatives or workmates about their visions before September 11 itself.
But according to the survey, most people only realised what their dream meant after they saw the terrorist attacks – and said nothing to others.
The British Society for Psychical Research has even set up a confidential website for people to log their dreams and visions.
“One chap from the South-west wrote in to say he had a nightmare on the night of September 10. He was being chased down the street by a huge cloud of smoke, with things falling all around him,” explained Maurice Grosse, from the SPR, who also said he had a nightmare of being smothered the night before the terrorist attacks.
“He told his wife about it the following morning and then, of course, watched it happen on TV,” he added.
The Fortean Times, the journal of the unexplained, claimed a 200 per cent increase in reports of premonitions after September 11. According to its survey, the West contains more than its fair share of psychics.
“It’s clear that the attacks on the World Trade Centre on September 11 have had a significant impact on our psyche, making us aware of dreams and premonitions we’ve had that only make sense now after the attacks,” said David Sutton, managing editor.
Psychic Bill Harrison, from Blackford, Somerset, believes as more people become interested in psychic phenomena, more have found their own powers.
“Dreams can be very relevant. People will be given things because their mind and body are in a relaxed state,” he said.
“Many people had September 11 events come to them in their sleep and many did report it to other people. They did drawings of the twin towers coming down. It’s how the authorities use a psychic’s information that is the issue,” he added.
