Mobile phones are killing off ghosts, according to a British occult expert.

The electrical activity some scientists say is behind paranormal events could be drowned out by electrical noise produced by calls and text messages.

Sightings have dropped sharply since mobiles were introduced 15 years ago, Tony Cornell, of the Society for Psychical Research, claimed.

Weekly reports
There are now 39 million mobile phones in Britain.

"Ghost sightings have remained consistent for centuries," Mr Cornell told the Sunday Express. "Until three years ago we'd receive reports of two new ghosts every week.

"But with the introduction of mobile phones 15 years ago, ghost sightings began to decline to the point where now we are receiving none."
