First A Monster, Now 'Crawling Ghost' Terrorizes Indian Town
[Original headline: The ghost who crawls

Close on the heels of a mysterious monster that went about clawing out lumps of flesh from the face of its victims, another beastly stalker seems to have descended upon Biswan town of Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district. Terrorised inhabitants have christened the creature "Crawling Ghost".
The two creatures have alarming similarities – they love using their claws and have a fetish for women. The crawling ghost attacks its victims from behind and goes for the rump. So terrified are some women of Biswan that they walk around with padded posteriors.
Although the mysterious attacker remains elusive and unidentified, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akhilesh Singh confirms: "The incidents are for real." He even dismisses suggestions that people of the town could be hallucinating.
The Medical Officer of the Lucknow government hospital, Dr S.P. Verma, is also a much-worried man. "The entire town has turned insomniac," he says. Men, women and children spend their nights on the terrace of their homes, torches in hand to ward off the ghost.
"We have registered at least 20 complaints so far," says the Biswan kotwali inspector, R.D. Yadav. Just recently, the cops had watched on helplessly as the irate crowd had demonstrated in front of the kotwali against the failure of the police to nab and kill the monster. "We can arrest a man but not a ghost," confesses the bewildered inspector.
The district administration had also sought help from a team of scientists from Lucknow, but the latter have so failed to come up with any conclusive findings. The scratch marks on the bodies of the victims would now be examined by forensic experts. According to Dr Verma, the victims bear identical scratches.
The various victims of the 'crawling ghost' have similar things to say about it: it's heavy, slippery and creepy. Confirms Municipal Board member Guru Saran Verma, whose daughter was attacked recently. The victims allege that they lose consciousness the moment they are scratched by the ghost. Other than the bleeding scratch-marks, they also complain of headache and giddiness. There have reportedly been two daylight attacks within the Government Hospital premises.
