Did anybody on Magnetic Island have a strange experience on the night of January 16? If so, we would love to hear about it or your comments about the strange and spooky photo taken that night at the Rocky Bay lookout and sent to us by Townsville reader Joan Versteeg.

Joan contacted us about her digital photo which included an, “appearance”.

Our reproduction above shows the full photo but slightly diminishes the brightness of the apparition. In the photo there is a clear wavy trail of light which seems to start down over the water beneath another round patch of light. The trail then runs up and through a large and brighter head and shoulders-like shape and continues out of the image to the right.

Joan wrote, “We stayed at the Leisure Resort on Magnetic Island from Jan 16 to 19. After a scooter ride we stopped and had a little walk and took some photo's and discovered an appearance in our photo....so I'm just wondering if you guys have had any other people with the same sort of thing happening...”

“I'm pretty sure it is a spirit but I know a lot of people are pretty skeptical about it! I also sent the picture to a medium and hope to hear back from her in the next couple of days. But I reckon it would be fun to put it up and see what the readers make out of it!”

We asked Joan if it had been wet at the time, thinking water may have distorted the lens. We also wanted clarification that nobody had been using torches to create the effect. Joan wrote back, “It was dry and it started to get dark and no there were no torches around at the time when I was taking the pictures and nothing unusual that we were aware of.

“I didn't even check the pics until we got back to our resort, so when I went through them I saw this appearance in the photo......I asked Danny (partner) what he thought it was and we both agreed that it very well might have been a spirit! It couldn't have been any smoke or torches. We thought of that as well. But if you look at the picture it is actually above the trees in the middle of nowhere!!
