Housing chiefs are arranging for a vicar to help a Carlisle family who have fled their home in fear of a poltergeist.
Allison Marshall, 27, bundled her family out of the house in Mardale Road, Raffles, in the middle of the night after a series of spooky happenings left her and her children terrified.
Officials at Carlisle Housing Association, which owns the property, have now offered to put her in touch with a vicar who may carry out a “cleansing” ceremony in a bid to end the family’s nightmare.
A spokeswoman for the Association said yesterday: “Our normal practice is that a vicar will go in to deal with this kind of thing. I believe we’re talking about what is called a cleansing.”
Allison – mother of Rebecca, three, Emily, four, Shannon, seven, and eight-year-old Aaron – had earlier told how she has been afraid to go back to her home since enduring a series of bizarre happenings at the house that has been her home for four years.
She and her children are now staying with her mother Lesley Whitewick, 46.
The drama began last week with a catalogue of inexplicable happenings, which included:
household objects, including tumbler glasses, hurtling around the room.
sudden and unexplained drops in the temperature in the house.
the mysterious appearance of what appeared to be a skull image in a picture frame in a glass display cabinet.
disturbing noises in the dead of night, including that of a child sobbing.
A family friend called in a clairvoyant who claimed he saw the image of a child in a dressing gown in the house.
Allison said: “I don’t really want to leave the house so it would be better if they could do something to sort it out and get this thing out of my house. If they can’t get rid of it, I’ll have to look into moving.”
