Lucknow - Eleven-year-old Jyoti lives in Aligarh, but her heart is in Bhopal. She puts vermilion in her hair, says that her husband from her previous birth lives in Bhopal and insists that she wants to go back to him.
Her mother Vijaylakshmi is a confused woman. "I do not know what to do with this girl. She insists that her husband Lokesh, to whom she was married in her previous birth, is a cloth dealer who lives in Bhopal and she wants to go back and live with him. She is my youngest child and I cannot part with her," the mother says.
According to Jyoti, (now a resident of Dilli Gate in Aligarh) she was married to Lokesh in her previous birth and even had a son called Akash.
"About 12 years ago, some of my husband’s rivals tried to kill him and our son by throwing them into a fire. Lokesh survived but our son succumbed to burn injuries. They then stabbed me and I also died. My husband is waiting for me and I want to go back to him." the 11-year-old says.
Jyoti’s father, Satish Balmiki, says, "I do not know how to find Lokesh in a big town like Bhopal. I have meagre resources and do not know how to solve the problem. Jyoti’s condition is getting worse day by day. She now wakes up at night and starts calling out for her husband. We have tried getting witch doctors to cure her and make her forget her previous birth but we have not succeeded."
