LAKE TWP. Lots of people heard some sort of explosion Sunday afternoon, but as of early evening, authorities hadn't been able to determine a source.
Telephones started ringing at sheriff's departments in Stark and Summit counties at about 4 p.m. after residents in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Highland Park Street NW said they heard an explosion that rattled windows. Similar calls flooded the Ohio Highway Patrol Post in Jackson Township.
Deputies from both counties searched the area, but no source turned up. Efforts included telephone calls to the Akron-Canton Airport and the armory on Highland Park. The calls, however, didn't lead to answers.
Something must have happened to prompt so many telephone calls, said Sgt. Eric Weisburn of the Stark County Sheriff's department.
"But we really don't know what shook so many house's windows," Weisburn said.
