Everette Howard Hunt, one of the biggest fish in the intelligence world has
died age 88.
He was a secret source of information along with J. Edgar Hoover, to Senator
Joseph McCarthy the commie witch hunter, and largely agreed with his British
intelligence counterparts that in the run up to W.W.II the Soviets were a
bigger threat than the Germans.
His knowledge of why top Nazis were offered immunity from prosecution, in
assisting C.I.A operations behind Soviet Bloc borders, meant he was perhaps
part of the negotiating team, and he was very unhappy when we [Britain] went back on
our word and prosecuted many of these men, who he felt were fighting the
Russians as we should be.
In 1949 he established the first C.I.A office in Mexico, where he bought and
bribed his way to influence various Latin American dictators; his specialty
was propaganda rumour and subversion.
In 1959 it was Hunt who advocated in a lengthy report, an attack on Cuba and
'Neutralizing' Fidel Castro, importantly he helped plan the 'Bay of Pigs'
invasion.
He was later to spend time in prison for organising the Watergate
burglaries, which brought down the Nixon administration, and in 1954 he led the secret
overthrow of the Guatemala president Jacobo Arbenz, which led to 40 years of
conflict.
10 years later he broke into the psychiatrist's office of Lewis Fielding in
an attempt to steal the file of Daniel Elsburg and discredit him for leaking
the Pentagon papers on secret U S actions in Vietnam, and L.S.D experiments.
In the 1960s he was C.I.A Station Chief in Washington, and was against the
Kennedy family's secret support for I.R.A terrorism on English soil, yet he
turned a blind eye to C.I.A boss Allen Dulles who had shares in companies in
socialist countries.
He believed defector stories of claims that the British Labour leader Hugh
Gaitskell was murdered by the Soviets, and wanted no amnesties for the
Cambridge traitors.
Scanning old film footage with face and gait postures, allegedly revealed
him dressed as a tramp at the grassy knoll scene where J. F. Kennedy was killed,
rumours of complicity in the assassination with Guy Bannister and Louise
Bloomfield have always done the rounds at Langley H.Q.
Certainly Lee Harvey Oswald was an undercover F.B.I informant since 1962,
and a false trail of implicating him by look-alike double Billy Seymour,
referred to in restricted documents as C E 237 was meticulously planned, and
paid for my Schumberger Co.
Hunt was also involved with the White House special investigations group
known as the 'plumbers', where a team of 5 operatives were caught burgling the Democratic Party H.Q.
Carrying his white house phone number meant in 1974 Hunt and 5 others
served 33 months in prison.
Just before this a strange thing happened, his wife Dorothy a long term U.S
agent with special knowledge into C.I.A activities and the Kennedy killing,
while carrying $10,000 was killed in a Chicago air crash.
Internal gossip
said the money was to insure silence among the Watergate conspirators.
Hunt was later to win a libel case in 1981, of $650,000 from a magazine
which claimed he was part of the Kennedy assassination.
He lived out his retirement writing espionage novels.
