   WEIRD SKY FALLS

The event has puzzled UFO researchers for over 16 years when, late on the night of June 23, 1990, an unidentified flying object was seen moving through the Henan Kaifeng sky.

Chinese residents of the community are convinced their visiting "spaceship" was responsible for dropping a mystery metal fragment from the clouds [below] as a bizarre gift to humanity.

Since then investigators have thoroughly investigated and studied the strange fragment but have yet to actually identify its composition or from where it might have come from.

Villagers in Hua'an County were startled by a noise like thunder and eyewitnesses watched as an iron "monster" fell from the sky on the evening of September 1, 2006 and buried itself some 15 centimeters in the ground in front of a house.

It lay there scorching hot and untouched for the next three hours before cooling sufficiently for locals like Lu Bingzhen to get a closer look at it.

He, like many of his neighbors, believed it was a fragment of a UFO and doubtless because of its shape, the object was swiftly christened the "alien's chamber pot".

Now tagged with a colorful new identity, local police were quick to establish that at least the pot was not radioactive.

Secretary General Zheng Chuanhong, of the Zhangzhou Meteorology Association, cast an expert eye over a picture of the aerial object. He dismissed any idea of a thunderstorm or tornado having been responsible for carrying it to the region and also thought it very unlikely the iron lump could be a fragment of a Chinese rocket. Chuanhong's best guess that the Hua'an locality has many small iron foundries and in the casting process a the boiler has likely detonated, sending the chunk crashing into the neighboring private residence.

Daily follow-up visits by local police have led them to concluded "the monster" is not from outer space and are convinced it is the result of a nearby exploding oxygen, or liquid gas, cylinder.
