CHUPACABRA BLAMED FOR ATTACKS ON CHILEAN FARM ANIMALS

A case study conducted by the Environmental Department of San Antonio (Region V) has determined that the recent “chupacabra” attacks in the area - which left 19 ducks and 12 geese dead - were the result of feral dogs and not the mythical “sucking goat.”

Observations of the fatal wounds and hair samples taken within the area, as well as analysis of the deceaseds’ bone structure revealed the culprits to be aggressive canines.

Ängel Bastidas, who was responsible for the government report, stated: “(The dogs) would slaughter the animals, lap up the blood, and then leave before humans had a chance to intervene.”

Although Bastidas concludes the attacks were bizarre, he prefers to stick with the concrete evidence supporting ravenous dogs rather than believing the massacre was carried out by some supernatural animal.

“In the eight-year case study conducted, we (the Environmental Department of San Antonio) were able to verify that all attacks were done by canines,” he said. The study also noted that as many as 15 stray dogs were witnessed hunting throughout the night.

The chupacabra supposedly prays upon livestock, draining their blood and leaving dry bodies behind. It became notorious when it allegedly slaughtered a number of farm animals in Puerto Rico in 1987. And, though it doesn’t exist, it has been thought to appear in many places in Latin America and as far north as Maine.

In the sleepy town of San Juan, located within the area of San Antonio (Region V), gruesome and savage murders have occurred. The mythical “chupacabra” (literally, “sucking goat”) is blamed by locals as the killer of the farm animals.

The mysterious attacks are similar to those in Placilla and Huallipén, where hens and rabbits fell victim to the bizarre slaughter and predation, which left the farm animals dead and sucked completely dry of blood. However, some are cautious about blaming this supernatural being.

“It was strange what happened,” said owner of the fowl Eva Pou. “But I think it must have just been an attack by dogs.”

Past eyewitness accounts of this creature describe it being approximately 1.20 meters in height, furry, and with a round, bald head.

Chupacabra attacks are often paralleled with UFO sightings, which has caused some to identify the creature as extra-terrestrial or an alien pet. Although UFO sightings are considered fodder for tabloids, attacks by chupacabras feature as legitimate news in many Spanish-speaking countries.

The chupacabra became infamous in the late 1980’s when a number of farm animals in Puerto Rico were found dead. Though none of the flesh was consumed, their blood had apparently been drained from their bodies.
