THERMAL IMAGING CAPTURES NY STATE BIGFOOT

Filed June 12.06

(Original headline: Bigfoot hunters claim another sighting )

Both local and professional Bigfoot hunters said they detected what might be Bigfoot at Hans Mobius' Clarence farm over the weekend. Tom Biscardi, chief executive officer of Searching For Bigfoot Inc., whose investigative team of seven arrived from California and Elmira on Friday, said his crew saw a 6- to 8-foot-tall humanoid creature Friday through thermal imaging.

Filmmaker Todd Bailey, who is making a documentary called "Bigfoot Lives" that follows Biscardi and his team on their hunts, was the first to see the creature on the infrared cameras.

"You could definitely tell the shape of something. There was definitely something in the woods that crouched down and then stood," Bailey said.

The team also was able to make contact with the creature for half an hour through recorded Bigfoot calls and "tree knocking," which is the preferred method of Bigfoot communication, Biscardi said.

"I've only experienced that two other times in my life, and I've been doing this for 34 years," Biscardi said of the returned sounds.

Their Friday night success motivated the team and three Clarence residents to return to Mobius' farm Saturday night for further investigations. Although they tried tree knocking, predatory calls and listening for the creature with a bionic ear, which Biscardi said can detect even the slightest whisper 300 yards away, the team saw and heard nothing for nearly five hours.

Biscardi blamed the lack of activity on migratory patterns. He said he thinks the creature or creatures had already headed north.

"I guarantee you this - something was there," he said. "I figure this thing had taken up temporary residence for two to three weeks. That's a normal pattern. They stay when they feel secure, serene, when they can find food for their family."

Bigfoot creatures travel in what he called breeding pools of three to eight.

"It's not just one or two of these things around the country. There's a minimum of 3,500," said Biscardi, who claims to have experienced five Bigfoot encounters.

Biscardi's team has not given up hope, however. They left Sunday for Portsmouth, Ohio, to investigate a similar sighting.

When professional Bigfoot hunters showed up to Hans Mobius' Clarence farm Friday, they immediately found clues they said gave the recent sighting credibility. "Something very large had bedded itself for the night," said Tom Biscardi, chief executive officer of Searching for Bigfoot Inc., as he pointed to a trampled part of a thicket on the Mobius farm.

"It's too big to be a deer, and look at the space above it," he said, gesturing to a gap in the thicket canopy.

"You think there's room for something big to stand up there?"

Biscardi and his crew drove directly to Clarence from Menlo Park, Calif., when they learned about the Mobius sighting.

Biscardi said he makes such travel plans only when a sighting is credible.

"What intrigued me about this case is Hans is not just a kid - he's not a jokester," he said.

The Bigfoot investigators aren't in it for the joke.

They use expensive equipment like motion sensitive infrared scanners, infrared scopes and recorded Bigfoot calls.

The four-person professional team also got some local help.

Natalie Nowak, 19, and Meaghan Barone, 20, are both neighbors of Mobius.

The two sought out the team when they heard Bigfoot might inhabit the woods near their homes.

"We saw on the news that some Bigfoot hunters were coming into town, so we drove around looking for their van," Barone said. "It's like a real-life "Blair Witch Project.' "

"I tell everybody I have Bigfoot in my backyard," Nowak added.

The girls struck the jackpot, finding the motel where Tom Biscardi and his Searching for Bigfoot Inc. crew were staying.

"We tried calling them, and we ended up leaving Post-It notes on their door, and they invited us out," Nowak said.

So the girls spent their Friday night by a campfire with the team.

They camped overnight on Mobius' farm, and even if they find nothing, it won't crush their beliefs.

"Even if it isn't real, it's great to get out here and be a kid again, looking for monsters," Barone said.
