UPDATE: It is now widely regarded that this video represents a clever hoax.
Author Eric Belson found this video while researching an upcoming book about the mythology of giants. He says, "The dramatic video follows on the heels of some startling scientific discoveries (footage of a giant squid, an enormous skeleton discovered in Iran). The clip shows what appears to be the remains of a giant creature uncovered in last year's Asian Tsunami. The video, a local news report from India, includes several dramatic shots of a creature, partially-submerged in sand and sea, that was discovered after the tsunami of December 26, 2004.
"It is estimated in the video that the remains are 150 feet long, and that the unidentified creature "may change paleontologists' understanding of prehistoric biology." Located near another incredible find from the tsunami - an ancient city that lay buried for centuries - it raises several intriguing questions: What is it? When is it from? Is it possible that a beast of these proportions once actually lived, and only now we are learning of its existence?"
In a press release Eric [based in Evanston, Ill] also has this to say: "My blog was originally supposed to be research for my book about the myths of giants throughout history. But with this video and the other discoveries, it's morphing into something else entirely."
He says the blog, and the planned book, may attempt to prove that giants once walked the earth, using Belson's knowledge of history and mythology to explain how the truth about giants has been concealed by stories like Jack and the Beanstalk. "I think it's possible that actual giants once existed side-by-side with humans, and inspired everything from the Bible to fairy tales," he concludes.
