A kangaroo has been spotted in Colchester.

The animal was seen by motorists and residents of Glen Avenue in Colchester, where the injured or dead animal was lying on the grass at the road's junction with the Avenue of Remembrance.

Worried residents contacted police yesterday morning to warn them the strange sighting was causing traffic chaos on the busy link to the A12.

But when police arrived, the animal had mysteriously disappeared.

A police spokesman said: "There was no trace of it so we can't personally confirm that it was a kangaroo.

"It had obviously hopped it by that time."
