Reports of a "panther-like animal" attacking a flock of sheep were yesterday being investigated by police.
Officers were told of a "large black animal" making "strange noises" and targeting animals in Broadway Tower, Worcs, on Sunday.
The witness said he was certain the animal was not a dog or fox but more like a panther.
West Mercia Police dealt with a similar incident earlier this year when a lynx-like cat was sighted in Evesham.
Police said: "No one should approach the animal if it is spotted."
The chief warden at West Midlands Safari Park said despite many sightings of large cats none had been confirmed.
