YORKSHIRE CYCLIST SPOTS PROWLING BIG CAT

(Original Headline: BIG CAT SIGHTING )

Everyone has heard of the Beast of Bodmin, but could there be a similar beast here in South Yorkshire?

According to a local cyclist, a big cat is prowling the Trans Pennine Trail near Blacker Hill.

Forty-year-old Rob Shedden of Hawshaw Lane, Hoyland, was out cycling at 6.45am when he saw a large, dark brown cat.

The shocked cyclist said: “I thought it was a dog at first, but then realised it was definitely a cat, but a lot larger than a domestic cat.

“It was about three or four foot long, about the size of a cheetah, and it had a long tail. It was stalking like a cat.
“It had hunched shoulders and it’s back legs were up. It moved very quickly. I slowed down, then it spotted me, stood up and lunged into a hedge and disappeared.”

Big cats have been sighted in the area on several occasions, although no hard evidence has ever been presented.

The most famous big cat in Britain is the one that supposedly stalks Bodmin Moor, and it has been caught on film.

It has also been blamed for killing animals, such as sheep. Some experts say that it could be an escaped animal and others deny that it exists altogether.

There are also reports of large black dogs being seen in Yorkshire, known as black shucks. The mythical beasts have red eyes and will attack only men.
