BRITISH CAT TALES :.

WEST LANCASHIRE BIG CAT KILLS AGAIN
  Posted June 5.03

Original headline: Mystery beast kills again

The beast of West Lancashire has claimed two more victims, according to a Lathom man.

Ian Hayde saw a dark coloured beast making off with one of his hens close to Old Engine Lane but he managed to scare the creature and it made off without its prey.

Sadly, despite none of the hens being injured, two of them died from the fright of the attack.

The attack occurred hours before a lynx-like creature attacked two hens in Elmers Green, Skelmersdale, on May 22, killing one and maiming the other.

Mr Hayde said it was too dark to properly see the creature, but reckoned it was about two feet high and dark in colour because all he could see were two green and glaring eyes.

He said: "Because it was dark, and the floodlights were on, all I could see was this white hen, which looked like it was floating about 12 inches off the ground.

"It definitely wasn't a fox," added Mr Hayde. "It didn't have a bushy tail."

A Skelmersdale resident believes they also saw the beast in March on Birkrig in Digmoor while they were driving home at about 6pm.

The resident believes it was a lynx-like creature, similar to the one spotted in Elmers Green, but only saw its tail, which was greyish and coiled at the end.

"All people who keep horses in the area should keep their horses in at night because the horses will smell in the heat and this animal will be attracted to them," the resident warned.
