Original headline: Wild cat alert after sighting
A wild cat could be on the loose on the edge of Northampton.
On Sunday morning, a man from Southfields spotted a large cat walking through woods near Talavera Way.
Bing Moore, from Donellan Green, saw the three-feet-long cat passing through the woods at the back of his house.
He said: "I've heard these kind of stories before and I've always thought they were a wind-up but now I've seen one for myself.
"I was looking out of the window and then I saw this really big cat, so I ran straight outside to have a look at it.
"It was walking along through the woods at quite a slow pace. It was obviously much bigger than a normal cat because it stood about 18 inches off the ground. But it wasn't anything like a dog.
"It was either a puma or a lynx or something.
"I know what a normal cat looks like and this certainly wasn't one."
Mr Bing called Northamptonshire police who visited the woods to see if the animal had left any trace.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire police said: "We visited the scene but unfortunately we could not find any sign of the animal."
