Dyfed Powys police have been investigating a possible fifth sighting of the mystery panther-like beast believed to be roaming the Mid Wales countryside. Armed officers were alerted on Wednesday.
It came after a woman spotted an animal prowling around her back garden in Llanedi which was reported to be bigger than her cat but smaller than her dog.
But a spokeswoman for Dyfed Powys Police said today the sighting was still unsubstantiated and nothing had been seen by officers at the scene although it may have fled before their arrival.
"The claim is still unsubstantiated. Armed officers were sent there but nothing was seen," she said.
The animal was first seen 17 miles north of Llanedi, in Llangadog, last week when it is believed to have savagely killed a pensioner's dog.
A post mortem confirmed it was killed by a 'large predator' but police are still awaiting the results of further DNA tests on hairs found in the dog's mouth.
