Tiger Reported Roaming Through English Village
[Original headline: Tiger sightings in North-East village]

Reports of a tiger walking through a North-East village are being investigated by puzzled police.

Officers in Consett received two separate reports that a tiger had been seen in Medomsley, County Durham, shortly before 5pm yesterday.

Scott Patrick, who made one of the sightings, said: "I was coming up Medomsley Bank and there it was. I didn't miss it by much, and it was close enough for me to see it clearly as a tiger.

"I didn't see its head because it went across me.

"I've got a black labrador and it was the same size, but it had tiger markings.

"It was not as orange as you might think, but it had tiger stripes."

PC Bill Brown, from Consett Police, said: "We're still trying to verify whether it is a tiger.

"We've got officers on the scene trying to find it, but we've spoken to our wildlife expert, and from the reports, it would need to be a lot bigger than described to be a tiger."
