CARVED STONE FACE FIND PUZZLES FLORIDA MAN

John Valle sent us pictures of this stone he discovered a few years back and is wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like it.

Could it be an ancient, carved artifact, a relatively modern piece of sculpted folk art, or even the efforts of a prankster?

John says he sent pictures of the object to museums and two Indian tribes in south Florida but so far no-one has been able to explain the granite find.

"I found the stone in West Boca Raton, Fl. This community was built in 1998; that is when we moved down here," says John.

"Across the street from my house is a man-made lake, they made four in this neighborhood. The lake goes down about 30 to 40 feet.

"About 3-4 years ago the lakes were real low and while fishing with my daughter we stumbled upon this stone. It looked like a big egg. At first I did not see the face.

"When you dig down in south Florida it's like stone, hard as hell to get thru without digging equipment. I imagine that during the excavation that's when this stone was uncovered and that's how we found it.

"It is about 6-7 inches long by 5-6 inches wide and heavy, I do think it's granite.

"It took a while with a soft brush and water to clean off the the stuff that was on the stone, that's when I noticed the face."

John is hoping our readers may have a theory, or even solution to this mystery. You may email him at sparky8658@aol.com and us as well, for we are equally intrigued by the mystery stone.

In the FS records we came across a similar story, published in 2003: Massachusetts Mystery of Carved Stone Faces
