GLOBAL WARMING, ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS AND THE FUTURE/PAST |
|
Posted July 22.05
Many point the finger and state that we've caused it.
Many will say it's a natural recurring thing.
I'm here to ask, can it be both? Is it us - that have created this natural (?) occurring cycle?
Global warming: It's a phrase we've been hearing on weather broadcasts and news reports, in science classrooms and around supper tables since the early 1980s. It's a vague concept that seems far removed from our everyday lives, something that concerns scientists enough to be digging into polar ice caps thousands of miles away.
Speaking of which, ice cores from Vostok, Antarctica, show the temperature near the South Pole has varied by more than 20 degrees Fahrenheit during the last 350,000 years. There've been peaks of warmth approximately every 100,000 years. The temperature and the carbon dioxide concentrations at the South Pole parallel each other. The rise and fall of temperatures gives rise to the ice age/interglacial cycle.
The great majority of scientific research agrees that between now and the middle of the coming century the globe could very well warm up, and the results could significantly alter life in this little corner of the planet we call home.
During the last Ice Age, approximately one-third of all land was covered by glaciers. Glaciers reached as far south as New York City. This huge volume of ice reduced the amount of water in the oceans, which lowered a level by several hundred feet. As a result, a land bridge joined Siberia to Alaska, making travel between the two continents possible. Climate can exhibit abrupt shifts over large regions of the world. As the last glacial period was giving way to the current warm interglacial period, average temperatures in Greenland returned to glacial levels for more than 1,000 years. This unusual period, which is called the Younger Dryas, ended abruptly about 12,000 years ago.
Evidence from an ice core drilled in Greenland indicates that temperatures there rose approximately 15°F (8°C) in less than a decade...I'm sure you've seen The Day After Tomorrow, you know how it works. (If you haven't, then you're missing out)
Ok, so that being said, what does that have to do with us if it's been happening for hundreds of thousands of years on an almost regular cycle?
Well, what if it's us? Yes, us.
As many may know, or be familiar with, there have been civilizations around longer than what our own history books tell us; hundreds of thousands of years ago. Could we have been here and could we have polluted (?) the environment enough to cause the warming, much like many say now. Look at the myths and legends...
Nearly 2,400 years ago the Greek philosopher Plato wrote of the lost continent of Atlantis.
The possibility of a real Atlantis, in the terms that Plato described it, has long gone. Atlantean civilization, according to Plato, began even earlier than that of the Egyptians. On his chronology, Atlantis flourished about 10,000 years ago, before it vanished in a single night of earthquake and flood.
It could have happened with Atlantis. We know for a fact that such things as catastrophic, sudden sinkings (or disappearance by other means) of substantial land masses can and do happen at times - the most famous modern example perhaps being 32 plus acres of the notorious Caribbean pirate haven of Port Royal, in 1692 AD. The eruption of Krakatoa somewhat later also swallowed up a sizeable community in the blink of an eye. Ten percent of the Hawaiian island of Oahu suddenly fell into the sea around a million years ago. Then there is the matter of the entire continent comprising today's undersea Kerguelen Plateau, which sank 20 million years ago in the southern Indian Sea. Too, we have indisputable proof of other ways cities or settlements of substantial size can be suddenly destroyed or hidden by natural forces alone; witness Pompeii, buried alive by a sudden volcanic eruption.
Atlantis is just one of those stories everyone should be familiar with, but there's more. We've been surprised many times with archaeological discoveries of remarkably advanced technology at various ancient sites, such as what appeared to be crude electrical batteries in design (by accident or intention no one is sure) from 1000 BC Iraq, A 500,000 Year Old Spark Plug, a 3,750-Year old skull that displays what many say is brain surgery, Greek-made mechanical analog computers for sea-going ship navigation from around 1 AD, and a relief on an Egyptian temple wall at Abydos displaying helicopters and planes, Pyramids themselves (both on land and underwater) - for example.
Could there have been a technologically advanced civilization up to 100,000 years ago, that today we have no notion of at all, but for myth and legend? Of course! The enormous gaps in our records and other historic documents tell us we are missing a great deal of knowledge - we know there's something there, but we just don't know what it is. The hidden truth might be much the same as what we currently guess about it-- or it could be astonishingly different.
For instance, there's plentiful evidence that vast areas of today's sea bottom were dry and inviting regions for people tens of thousands of years ago. Indeed, substantial portions of these may have been among the best environments on Earth for civilizations to flourish within at that time-- considering there was an ongoing Ice Age making the rest of the world a pretty miserable place to live.
A civilization with amnesia maybe? Could it be we've wiped ourselves out so many times that we wind up creating myths and legends of our past? Have we been the ones that created this global warming 'trend'? Do we rise and die off time and time again?
To serve as example of past civilizations, Anthropologist/author Jonathan Gray, outlines the following:
"3398 B.C., two billion people, with astonishing technology, vanished from the face of the earth. This lost super race beat us to the moon (?), to computers, and to nuclear war. A cosmic disaster occurred which wiped out a super civilization and generated 6,000 foot tidal waves the disaster known to early civilizations worldwide as the great flood (the deluge mentioned in the book of Genesis in the Bible, for which Noah constructed the Ark to save a remnant of mankind).
...The descendants of this super race branched out from Ararat (Armenia) to create civilizations less advanced technologically, but still with some knowledge of their original civilization. The theory of evolution, which believes in the gradual progression of man, cannot stand up to the evidence governed by the laws of thermo-dynamics. The evidence of fully developed cities and an advanced technology of a superior man, whose society deteriorated over time is irrefutable.
...Early "cave men" wore clothes like ours? (more later & see Those Sophisticated Cave Men) That man knew the secret of flight before the twentieth century? That early civilizations performed open-heart surgery and fluoroscopy? That there were once shining cities illuminated by a means of electricity unknown to us today. The list is endless and fascinating, pointing to a super civilization, evidences of which can no longer be ignored.
There's archaeological and anthropological evidence that something very big happened on this planet in the past. Something so big it wiped traces of just about everything from the face of the earth. From around the world, "impossible" ancient inventions have been surfacing of late, and some of them from a technology as advanced as our own.
Nearly all the writings of ancient people worldwide tell the same story, that of decline from an original "Golden Age." That a cataclysmic disaster wiped out the advanced world.
And here we are again. Are we about to repeat history? Global warming and our past may very well be linked. It's just a matter of whether or not you're willing to look at our past, the trends we've set in nature - and in stone, for your answer.
